Ensure your application meets local planning requirements

This section outlines what you need to submit for your planning application to be validated, including checklists and nutrient neutrality-specific criteria.

If you’re submitting a planning application in one of the areas listed on this page, you’ll need to provide nutrient neutrality information – particularly if your proposed development is in one of the NN catchment areas.

To make sure your application complies with the regulations, read the local planning authority’s catchment guidance by following the links below.

  • Wmf card

    Westmorland and Furness Council

    Planning applications in Westmorland and Furness, including the River Eden catchment, a designated Special Area of Conservation, may be affected by Nutrient Neutrality.

  • Cumberland card

    Cumberland Council

    Developments in the River Derwent & Bassenthwaite Lake and River Eden Special Areas of Conservation may have to take nutrient neutrality into account.

  • Ldnp card

    Lake District National Park Authority

    If you’re submitting a planning application to the Lake District National Park Authority and the proposed site falls within one of the nutrient neutrality catchment areas, you must follow the validation process.
